Bayer, Yaz Manufacturer Information
Yaz birth control is a popular contraceptive heavily marketed to women in the United States promoting its use in treating premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Yaz and Yasmin are the first contraceptives considered a “fourth generation” birth control pill. Yaz is manufactured by Bayer Healthcare. Generic Yaz is marketed as “Ocella” and is manufactured by Teva. Yaz is a combination hormone contraceptive containing the hormones ethinyl estradiol (estrogen) and drospirenone which is a synthetic form of progestin.
The drug makers had sole access to facts concerning the potential Yaz problems, and ignored the correlation between their drug and potentially life-threatening side effects. Yaz safety concerns were concealed and misrepresentations were made to to convince potential users and the medical community to use the birth control pill instead of other available products. This increased the drug makers’ profits at the expense of women throughout the United States.
Yaz birth control may be linked to several serious side effects such
gallbladder issues, gallstones,
strokes,
blood clots and
heart attacks, and has been the subject of a misleading marketing campaign. For all of these reasons and more, Schechter, McElwee, Shaffer & Harris, L.L.P. is accepting cases for Yaz class action lawsuits.
Yaz manufacturer Bayer has been having legal issues for a while now. Deceptive Yaz commercials prompted the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to issue Bayer a warning letter for false advertising. Unfortunately, the correction came too late, and many women had already been injured by Yaz. By the time the corrective Yaz campaign began running in January 2009, the drug was already one of the most popular birth control pills on the market with sales reaching $616 million.
Bayer's Yaz campaign not only made false claims about the benefits of the drug, it also downplayed the very serious
side effects, including life-threatening
blood clots known to be associated with Yaz. Because of Bayer's false advertising, millions of women took Yaz without being fully aware of the drug's significant side effects and health risks.
