YAZMIN / YAZ INJURY LAWSUIT HELP
Yasmin / Yaz Dangers
Yasmin and/or Yaz are widely prescribed combination birth control pills used to prevent pregnancy and to treat Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). Bayer manufactures these drugs and aggressively and controversially marketed them for a variety of uses, some of which Bayer later had to recant. When compared with other oral contraceptives, these two medications have a unique chemical makeup that leads to an range of risks and medical problems.
The pills use two types of hormones known as estrogen and progestin. The estrogen component is the same in most, if not all birth control pills. The progestin component of Yasmin and Yaz, called Drospirenone, is completely unique to these two birth control pills. It is called the “Fourth Generation” and is different from the previous three generations because it works on different chemical receptors than other progestins and because it contains a potassium-sparing diuretic.
Drospirenone, the progestin component of Yaz and Yasmin, can cause elevation of potassium levels due to its potassium-sparing diuretic effects. Because it can act like a diuretic, it can cause dehydration which increases the potassium levels in the body and decreases the body’s sodium levels. Elevation of potassium causes arrhythmias which can lead to stroke, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism or heart attack. Dehydration can also lead to kidney stones and gall bladder disease.
Types of Injuries Associated with Product Use:
